Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field which helps biologist in deriving the knowledge from Computer based analysis of biological data. In simple means it is the storage, retrieval and analysis of the biological data using computational tools and databases.
This has implications in diverse areas, ranging from artificial intelligence and robotics to genome analysis. In the context of genome initiatives, the term was originally applied to the computational manipulation and analysis of biological sequence data (DNA and /or protein). However in view of the recent rapid accumulation of available protein structures, the term now tends also to be used to accept the manipulation and analysis of three-dimensional (3D) structural data.
